Eriophyid Mites

These mites (Phyllocoptes fructiphilus) were observed under a dissecting microscope (stereoscope). The plant is beginning to wilt and under the warm light from the microscope, the mites are preparing to launch to a new host. Some of the mites have "stood up" on their posterior end and are waving their legs in the air.
